Material Guide
NEWSPAPER, MAGAZINES & CATALOGS
What it is:
Anything that comes with your normal newspaper. Magazines delivered to your home or purchased at a newsstand. All Catalogs, phone books, and junk mail.
What to do:
Place in tote loose. Put junk mail and writing paper in tote. Now accepting soft & hardcover books. DO NOT USE STRING OR PLASTIC BAGS.
Items not recyclable:
Napkins, tissue paper, paper towels, wax paper, or wrapping paper. ANY FOOD SOILED PAPER.
CORRUGATED CARDBOARD
What it is:
Recycle all brown corrugated cardboard. Brown paper bags. Unsoiled pizza boxes Box board (shoe boxes, gift boxes, cereal boxes.
What to do:
Remove all strapping. Break down all boxes to fit in tote. NO STYROFOAM.
Items not recyclable:
Waxed corrugated, cardboard lined with foam, fridge/freezer boxboard, or pop/beer boxboard, styrofoam.
GLASS BOTTLES
What it is:
All clear, green and brown food and beverage containers.
What to do:
Rinse containers. Labels DO NOT have to be removed. Put all containers and METAL lids and caps in tote.
Items not recyclable:
Ceramic items/bottles, flower pots, Crystal light bulbs, mirrors, window glass, heat resistant ovenware, eyeglasses, or hypodermic syringes.
METAL CANS
What it is:
All metal food & beverage containers (cans). Metal lids, closure caps, aluminum pie tins.
Pots, pans, tins & utensils.
What to do:
Rinse containers. Labels DO NOT have to be removed. Absolutely no propane tanks of any size.
Items not recyclable:
Silverware, metal/cardboard containers, (frozen juke or motor oil). small appliances, or tin foil. DO NOT INCLUDE ANY TYPE OF BATTERY.
PLASTIC CONTAINERS
What it is:
Plastics #1-#7. Plastic food, soap & beverage containers, rigid plastic, laundry baskets,
plastic lawn chairs, furniture, etc.
What to do:
Rinse Container. Wide mouth containers (yogurt and cottage cheese)
NO STYROFOAM
NO deli containers
NO microwave containers
NO metal parts on plastic
Items not recyclable:
Anti-freeze or motor oil containers, furniture, plates, tableware, medicine bottles, plexiglass, fast food containers and plastic bags
CARTONS & DRINK BOXES
What it is:
Gabel top beverages. Containers including those with plastics spouts.
What to do:
Empty & rinse. Place in tote with other containers.
Items not recyclable:
Straws from drink boxes. Frozen food containers. Waxed paper or drink pouches.
ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT
In accordance with the disposal ban requirements of Section 27-2611 of the Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Act, on January 1st, 2015, it will become unlawful for residential households in New York State to place electronic equipment at the curb for disposal.

When is my collection schedule?

What can and can’t I recycle?
The do’s and don’t are listed above. When in doubt, throw it out.

Is styrofoam recyclable?
No, not in our curbside collection program. Some items like Styrofoam packing peanuts can be reused at local shipping business, but larger block Styrofoam cannot be recycled and must be taken with trash.

Do you recycle motor oil or oil filters?
Pinto does not collect motor oil or oil filters.

Do you recycle electronics?
Pinto does not collect electronic waste as part of our weekly pick up, but will will sponsor E waste drives throughout the year to collect electronics and TV’s. Stay tuned for information regarding these Events.

Can I bag my recyclables?
No, as they are a contaminate and cause problems for the sorting machinery at the recycle facility.
* This also means you should not be recycling plastic shopping bags! *

Where do I put my recyclables?
In your Pinto provided black recycling Tote.

What happens if someone steals my tote- can I get another one?
If your tote is stolen or gone missing , please call Pinto Sanitation at 716-775-0123. When you call, please reference your name, address and # on the side of the tote.

What if I’m moving, can I take the tote with me?
No, totes belong to Pinto Sanitation. If you are moving, the tote stays with the house.
